Climate Change Actions and Regional Sustainable Development Synergies

Cities are important drivers to promote climate change actions on the ground. A number of global cities have developed and promoted their own climate change strategies which aim to accelerate real actions by local stakeholders and residents. Such local initiatives and networks should be further strengthened to enable the sharing of important knowledge and experiences, as well as promoting immediate implementation of key climate strategies both locally and globally. Furthermore, key SDGs targets are different in each city depending on local context. While it is certainly a complex challenge to achieve the targets for both climate change and the SDGs, integration of both targets signifies an important synergy for local sustainable development. Therefore, this session focuses on exchanging ideas and experiences on how global cities have tackled local key challenges and how they have developed local initiatives and actions. In the session, policy makers and researchers from global cities are invited to talk about local oriented challenges, current situations, and their achievements and efforts, and give an outline of their effective and unique programmes as a short relay presentation by each city. The relay presentation will be followed by a panel discussion.
