This session will discuss how IGES can contribute to the 4th “UN Climate and SDGs synergy conference” to be convened by UNDESA and UNFCCC in April/May/June 2023 at theUN Headquarters, New York Discussion will also focus on related events/opportunities based on results of the 3rd “UN Climate and SDGs synergy conference” held on 20-21 July 2022 atUNU, Tokyo, the 27th session of Conference of Parties of the UNFCCC (COP27) and side events on synergy in COP27. This session will explore IGES' particular contribution to the role of an integrated scientific approach to strengthen synergies (and weaken trade-offs) that could link with post SDGs, and will explore a vision for IGES' post-SDGsactivities.

This session will start by inviting high-level representatives from the 3rd synergy conference to give some remarks. Then, IGES will share results from the 3rd synergy conference and related events at COP27. Discussions will bring together key researchers at IGES and other partner organisations with particular focus on the role of “circular economy” and “disaster risk reduction (DRR)”, which are essential elements for strengthening the synergy between climate change and SDGs, as well as what contribution IGES can provide.
