Making Sustainability the Heart of Local Actions in Asia
The 2017 meeting of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) convened from 10-19 July at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The HLPF is the main UN body through which countries review and report progress made on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). During this keynote session, Mr. Akira Yokochi, Director, Global Issues Cooperation Division, International Cooperation Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, shared information on Japan's implementation and advancement of the SDGs. ISAP2017 represented the first time that Japan reported back on its progress following the conclusion of HLPF2017.

Mr. Akira Yokochi is Director of Global Issues Cooperation Division, International Cooperation Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He joined the Ministry in 1993 and has held numerous positions, including Principal Deputy Director, Aid Planning Division, Economic Cooperation Bureau, Deputy Director, Management and Coordination Division, Minister’s Secretariat, Counsellor, Embassy of Japan in the People’s Republic of China, Counsellor, Permanent Delegation of Japan to the OECD, Director of Inspection Division, Minister’s Secretariat, and Director of Second China and Mongolia Division, Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau. He was born in Nagano, and is a graduate of Faculty of Law, Keio University.
