on Climate Change: Role and Challenges of
National Greenhouse Gas Inventories

This session aims to promote discussions on climate actions towards the post-2020 climate regime to be adopted at COP21. Bearing in mind key messages from the Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Fifth Assessment Report (AR5), the session will provide an opportunity to deepen the understanding of national greenhouse gas inventories and the role of IPCC Task Force on National Greenhouse Gas Inventories (TFI).

The first part of the session will present 1) key messages from the IPCC AR5, 2) the importance of national greenhouse gas inventories and the role of IPCC Task Force on National Greenhouse Gas Inventories (TFI), 3) national greenhouse gas inventories in the context of UNFCCC negotiations. The second part discusses the importance of estimating GHG emissions not only at the national level but also at private and municipal levels etc. to design and implement successful climate change policies towards low-carbon and climate resilient societies.
