| 14:30-17:30 SESSION II: Building Resilient Societies | | Resilience is the capability to deal with catastrophic events such as the one that hit East Japan in terms of the natural/ environmental, social, and economic capital and the infrastructure, as well as institutions for providing services, which together can contribute to making a society resilient - a concept which has become widely recognised as being vital in the light of climate change adaptation. This session took up the issue of building resilient societies where these characteristics are appropriately designed to cope with extreme natural disasters and their associated impacts, reflecting on the recent disasters in East Japan and extreme events outside Japan (e.g. 2011 Christchurch earthquake; 2004 tsunami, Indonesia; Hurricane Katrina, 2005).

9:30-12:15 SESSION III: Governance for Sustainable Development | | This session emphasised the Asia-Pacific region’s specific focus and possible contributions to the Rio+20 regional preparation process. The goal of this session was to facilitate constructive dialogue between stakeholders from different areas of the environment and sustainable development field. With this dialogue at ISAP, the outcome will be transmitted to the ongoing regional preparations towards Rio+20. 13:30-16:15 SESSION IV: Green Economy | | Diverse policies for developing countries relating to poverty issues incl. NAMAs, Co-benefits, SCP, etc. will promote Green Economy in developing countries. Under the overall theme of ISAP 2011, this session first introduced the current international discussion on green economy and green growth, and then discussed experiences, further potentials and challenges of green economy/green growth in Asia-Pacific region, in particular its implications to sustainable development and poverty eradication in this region as well as international concerns such as green protectionism or additional conditionality on development paths. 16:30-18:00 SESSION V: Summary Session on Road to Rio+20 | | In collaboration with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), this session provided a chair's summary from the previous plenary sessions followed by open discussions with the audience. The aim of the open discussion was to get feedback and develop key messages from regional stakeholders which can be delivered to UNCSD Rio20 via the Asia-Pacific regional consultation.
