"Just Transition" is mentioned in the long-term low emission development strategy of Japan, so how to make such a transition toward a decarbonised society will be an important part of the policy agenda. This session starts with a keynote presentation by Derk Loorbach (DRIFT, the Netherlands), who pioneers actions and researche on transition management/governance, to provide guidance on the concept of transition management/governance as well as to show case studies using its framework. This will be followed by a presentation of a case on transition management/governance in Japan's power sector. The next presentation applies the framework of transition management/governance to the Chinese and Indian coal industries, and introduces issues facing the two countries and prospects for the future. Finally, the session will move on to a panel discussion on the transition management/governance and its implications for Japan’s long-term strategy.
